The Plant

The Piedmont Biofuels Plant is a 14 acre eco-industrial park that is the home of many sustainably minded businesses. Down at the end of Lorax Lane, on the last piece of industrial zoned land in Pittsboro, North Carolina, it is a remarkable place of innovation and imagination. This is an address where both fuel and food meet at an intersection of the new green economy.

We have incubated businesses, launched successful startups, and provided space to mature companies as well. Throughout our unique natural campus you will find like-minded people engaged in a wide variety of business endeavors that are targeted at changing the world for the better. Take the Virtual Tour for more images.

Each year thousands of visitors tour our park. Plant denizens benefit from this traffic by getting their products and services in front of sustainably minded customers.

Eastern Carolina Organics, a darling of the piedmont’s food shed has out grown their home of seven years, leaving us with office, warehouse and dock space for rent. We have dock high and at grade loading abilities, 3 phase power, plenty of sewer allocation, and a utility scale solar array that reduces demand charges for any tenant that can operate with the rhythms of the sun.

We are currently the home of a commercial hydroponic lettuce operation, a demonstration aquaponics project, and Piedmont Biofarm which has three acres of sustainable produce under cultivation. We are the headquarters of Piedmont Biofuels, a national leader in community scale biodiesel, and The Abundance Foundation, a local non-profit that is focused on local food and renewable energy. We are the address for Green Door Design Build and house various office endeavors as well.

Here are some floorplans of the spaces that will be available soon:

193 Lorax Lane floorplan This is known on the project as “Building 4,” and has been the home of a precision chemical blending operation.
